The Link between Omega 3, Addictions and Depression

“We cannot expect the brain to fire on all cylinders as long as the nutrients needed for brain health remain unmet” Udo Erasmus

The body is made of food and we need to constantly supply the ingredients needed to create hormones that feed the brain.
Omega 3 is natures Prozac. It works with zinc, magnesium and B vitamins to create serotonin, the happy hormone.

Modern man is severely depleted in these nutrients and providing the brain with synthetic drugs will never hit the mark.

High doses of deep fish oil rich in omega 3 provides the body with the main nutrients EPA and DHA needed to feed the endocrine system and thus the brain. But many medical drugs and hydrogenated vegetable fat found in most processed foods deplete the body of this vital nutrient.

We then have high levels of wheat intake that contains gluten that bind to the mineral zinc.

Many young children are being fed too much wheat and a lack of omega 3 supplementation can result in problems with ADHD, hyperactivity, addictions and depression leading to supplementation of medical drugs which can have dangerous side affects.

Interestingly in nature where there are high levels of the omegas (EFA’s) zinc is found also such as in nuts, seeds and fish.

Approx 1/3 of the brain is made up of omega 3 but as we age and stop supplementing or add via our diets we lose this vital fat resulting in depression. Note how mothers after they give birth can suffer from PND. This is due to the baby taking omega 3 from the mother.

No one is Prozac deficient. They are simply omega 3 deficient

Studies have shown that where there is depression there is brain shrinkage.

The brain is literally made of fat and water.

This is due to a lack of hydration and a depletion of fats. A small drop in water intake affects brain performance considerably. Water and oils work together in the body to hydrate, balance minerals and support the central nervous system.

When someone is under stress they lose water so the first port of call in any healing journey is hydration and omega 3 supplementation. Both the oils and water hp to quench the cells.

Anyone already on anti depressants needs to start with this and then proceed from there gently and slowly

Addictions can be created via this lack of fats in the brain as the body instead of making you crave fish will make you crave synthetic prostaglandins, the precursors to hormones, such as coffee, sugar, tea, alcohol and more in order to get an instant high. The more the brain is fed with what it needs the less likely you will reach for a drug to sustain you. Alcohol is a depressant and so are drugs.
The need for supplementation is high for modern man.

Our grandparents were very lucky in being fed fish oil as children in schools and this is one way forward on getting humanity off meds and back towards having healthy minds, bodies and spirits.

Thank you for this informative article. It all makes perfect sense to me. Do you have any brands for fish oils that you particularly recommend? I imagine there can be a huge difference in quality.

Thank you!
