Electrolyte Balancing
Every night when we are asleep the electrolyte activity is having an effect on cellular nutrition.
At night fall magnesium moves into the cell to help us to relax and we begin to feel drowsy. We are preparing for sleep and for the body to reset and cleanse the system whilst we are asleep.
In Chinese medicine each organ is connected to a time of day and for the liver it is between 1 and 3 at night. This is when that organ works at its best and the liver is the organ of detoxification.
This is the best time for the body to work on you.
So it would make sense to help the body do so. This is why it’s not a good idea to eat late because then the body is going to spend most of your sleep cycle digesting food. Far better to eat early and then the liver can spend its energy in cleaning out the system all ready for a new day to begin the cycle over again.
When I see clients I ask about their sleep cycle and how they feel when they awaken. If they feel drowsy and achy and have difficulty getting up ready to start their day it means the the liver was over worked at night and the result is the waste still stuck in the lymph.
Mucus, calcium sodium, fats and toxins which all hang around together need to be outer cellular by the morning ready to be utilised flushed away or recalibrated by the liver.
If you wake up feeling snotty, gunk in your eyes, achy and stiff then it is simply a sign to help the liver in its cleansing ability by drinking more water, cutting out pasteurised dairy, wheat and soya which are all mucus forming and eating more nutrient dense foods which results in eating less.
Eating more high fat and high protein food rich in b vitamins and antioxidants will help support liver function. Eating the rights fats and more raw fats satiates the body. The body is made of fat water and protein so it makes sense to give it more of what it needs to rebuild itself. During the menopause when the female struggles with hormone balancing there is no route out anymore of toxicity via the menses so the liver has to work harder. Pouring coffee, tea, alcohol and lots of bread and cakes and carrying on as normal will begin to create symptoms, the body’s warning signs.
Night sweats are one sign the liver is using the skin to remove waste. Making you sweat to clear toxicity. Sweating via exercising is best to help the liver but not at night when it is a sign it is struggling.
The body will also wake you at a certain time in order to look at what is going on emotionally as well as physically. If you keep getting up to pee at the same time every night the body is asking you to look deeper into to your emotional health and clear it. The time of day is when that organ works at it best. The liver is the seat of anger and will use that time to get your attention. If its between 3 and 5 the body is asking you to look at your grief.
This is what my work involves asking detailed questions to help get a deeper picture of what the body is trying to tell you.
The body is always working for you and not against.
Also if needing to pee at night excess sodium is triggering a release. It also means you are not quenching the cells with plenty of essential fats and water in the day time.
The more hydrated you are with essential fats ….deep sea fish oil….the more you can drink and not keep going to the loo. Cutting down on excess sodium is also important.
Start to track your sleep cycle and note the times when you awaken and how you feel. If you keep waking at a certain time its time to do some inner clearing on both a physical and emotional level.
Acupuncture or shiatsu is one way of helping the system recalibrate as well as a supporting diet.
The above picture is the ingredients for a green juice rich in calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium. Juicing frees up minerals from the antinutrients found in most vegetation.
